Professor Alessandro Quaranta, known as Prof Q, has established himself as a leading figure in the field of Dentistry and Healthcare Management, with a distinguished specialist career spanning 20 years since completing his specialist training at the prestigious University of Rome, "La Sapienza." This institution is renowned as Italy's top university* and the largest in Europe.

An Italian native, Prof Q is now an Australian AHPRA-registered Specialist Periodontist. He holds a PhD in Dental Implantology and an MBA from the University of Queensland, where he studied under a scholarship. Currently, he serves as a Clinical Professor at the University of Sydney's School of Dentistry. Alongside his academic role, he holds a private practice position as Chief Clinical Consultant and Director at Smile Specialist Suite in Newcastle and Neutral Bay, as well as Kiama Dental Specialists in New South Wales.

Prof Q has made significant contributions to research in Dentistry and Healthcare Management. Recently, he has broadened his focus to include leadership and business in dental healthcare, leveraging his extensive leadership background and MBA. He has completed comprehensive board director training and is now honing his board skills to excel in his professional governance roles.

With over 200 research publications to his name, including more than 120 full-text scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, Prof Q is recognized as one of the most prolific researchers in Periodontics and Dental Implantology in Australia. His balanced expertise in education, research, and clinical practice has led to numerous invitations to lecture on topics such as dentistry, oral implantology, business management, and leadership at academic institutions and scientific societies worldwide.

His work has positively impacted countless healthcare practitioners, university students, and scholars, significantly improving the quality of care for periodontal and dental patients globally and driving innovation in scientific teaching and research.

In 2019, Prof Q was awarded the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) from the Ministry of Education, University, and Research (MIUR), the highest academic qualification in Italy, qualifying him for a Full Professorship. From 2018 to 2020, he served as the Professor of Periodontics at Griffith University's School of Dentistry and Oral Health in Queensland, where he also directed the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry program, becoming Australia's youngest Professor (Academic Level E) at the time.

Previously, he led the Discipline of Periodontics and Implantology at the University of Western Australia (UWA), a member of Australia's Group of Eight leading research-intensive universities. At UWA, he was the Founding Leader of the Research Program in Oral Implantology and Periodontics and coordinated the Specialist Clinical Service in Periodontics and Implantology at the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia, the state's sole public specialist service in Periodontics.

Prof Q has also held a senior lecturing position at the prestigious University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand.

When he is not busy with university commitments and his patients, Alex enjoys travelling with his wife, Lizzy (Dr. Lizzy Hui) and their kid Leonardo, swimming, and relaxing on the beach while reading a good book. In coherence with his Italian origins, he enjoys cooking Italian dishes, tasting good wines and experiencing other cuisines.
